Topic: The NBN Crowdsourcing Data Capture Summit

This looks an important event:

This one-day Summit will seek to kick-start collaborations to mobilise the National Biodiversity Network

Oh I'd had this via a museum colleague and thought it was a museums only thing!

ALERC's own Steve Whitbread is on the bill.  It'll be worth going just hear him.

Re: The NBN Crowdsourcing Data Capture Summit

(So much for the comic relief at the crowd sourcing summit! It was a good day though.)

The reason for dusting this off is that the NBNT will be kicking the historic data capture working group into life in the springtime. I would suggest that it'll be worth each LERC thinking now about what historic data - in notebooks, on cards, as specimens, in local nat hist soc bulletins etc - there likely to be in existence locally that might be incorporated into whatever project results over the next couple of years, and which which might provide both useful volunteer opportunities and interesting stories about the wildlife and recorders of yesteryear. And perhaps YOU might also want to be involved with the working group

The NBN Secretariat has been building a catalogue of such sources so they will be eager to add to this but thinking ahead a little might be to your benefit.

Steve
