Topic: Relationship between priority species and habitats.

We want to investigate links between records for species of principal importance and our emerging ecological networks.

Does anyone know of a published table which identifies the links between species and habitats of principal importance (or priority species/habs)? ie which priority habitata each priority species is associated with.

Table 11 in the UKBAP Species and Habitats Review, 2007 - http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/PDF/UKBAP_Spec … w-2007.pdf - summarizes the figures but so far I have been unable to track down the detail in a readily accessible form.

Any help appreciated.

Nik

Re: Relationship between priority species and habitats.

Hi Nik.

I found these a few weeks ago. http://publications.naturalengland.org. … gory=65029 There's a bunch of spreadsheets associating species with priority habitats. I found them whilst googling something else. I'm not sure why they've not been announced or publicised.

Excellent!

Many thanks Dan

Re: Relationship between priority species and habitats.

Nik,

we are thinking of the doing the same thing at NBIS at some point (well we have been thinking for a while).  The report Dan mentions is a key one we will use in combination with the species lists at the bottom of the NBN SW pilot Priority Habitat Definition Statements.  If you don't have these I can email them.

We would also be looking at the link in regard to guilds (common structure and process that a group of species need) instead of say BAP habitats.  We have been involved in some of this work through several Biodiversity Audits by UEA in the Norfolk area, a summary is here: http://www.britishecologicalsociety.org … _final.pdf.  The final report is here: http://www.uea.ac.uk/~e313602/Breckland.pdf

Would be interesting to hear how you get on.

Cheers

Sam
